Labour Force Profile of Port Drayage Drivers in Metro Vancouver (2013)

This project was undertaken for the Asia Pacific Gateway Skills Table in cooperation with Darryl Anderson of Wave Point Consulting and R.A. Malatest and Associates of Victoria. The study methodology included an intercept survey and extensive data analysis. Surveys were distributed at the four container terminals in the Lower Mainland by Malatest staff over a three-week period from February 25 to March 14, 2013. Data on employment history, compensation and expenses, driver attitudes towards employment in the industry, and driver demographics was collected and analyzed. The analysis included comparison with previous studies at US ports, evaluation of the impact of age, experience, employment status and union membership on compensation levels, assessment of efficiency and costs, and identification of emerging issues. The Final Report is available here (high res | web res).
